Decisions, Decisions…

Running around in his mind was the thoughts of them striking a conversation more…affectionate. Of course, she’d be annoying. He knew, too, that it would never happen. “What are you doing anyway? You’ve been at it the whole day yesterday. Take a break from the screen, will you? It’s unhealthy.”
“Thanks for your concern, Luc, but I’ve to sort things out. You see, I’ve to decide on what course I’m taking in the future.”
“I thought you made up your mind?”
“Why, yes actually but this dumb program won’t let me choose only one. I have to give a minimum of four choices, the maximum is eight.”
“So it’s a four or eight?”
“Four. If I give them eight, they’ll see more chances to cast me away from my dream course. I’m not really interested in everything else offered.”
“Chosen fields of courses?”
“TESL and multimedia only, if possible.”
“Engineering?”
“Nah, not my cup of tea.”
“I see…so what’s the problem? You can just put those in.”
“It’s not easy. I’ve no idea on what’s so different between pre-TESL and diploma TESL courses. And the difference between Multimedia Technology and Multimedia Computer Science…” Emma turned her swivel chair towards Luc.
“So what should I do?”
There was no response. She looked at Luc. He was staring blankly at her. Then he blinked. And coughed.
“Luc?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Oh man…where is Gabe when I need him? Urgh!”
“Well, he’s sick in bed so you’re stuck with me for today.”
“Oh boy… God, please let time run fast.”
“You don’t sound happy. Let me tell you, girls would die to have me around. You should be honoured that I would rather spend time with you than with them.”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m honoured Luc. Really. Now be a good nudge and help me with this.”
“You’re not listening to me, are you?”
“I am, I am.”
Luc snorted and turned to face elsewhere than the girl in front of her, pouting. He hated those puppy eyes especially when she pouts. Smiling to himself however, he was glad it was Emma and not some other girl.
“Ah…you have to fill me in on those stuffs. I’m not Gabe.”
“Sure! Here’s the thing: TESL stands for Teaching English as Second Language and you know just how much I love that wonderful language so…”
Although he dreaded hearing about those kind of stuffs he was not personally interested in, he forgave himself today. If it made Emma happy, it made him happy. I wonder if she’d still allow us around her, he thought. Kids. They grow up so soon it’s time to say goodbye in no time at all.
He listened to her blabbering intently.
Luc whispered to himself, “Just in case we’ll part soon, right Emma?”
